On March 16th, Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu argued that electing mayors in a single round is disadvantageous for smaller parties and argued that ALDE is in favor of the organization of two-rounded elections. PLUS and USR leaders also agreed with this idea, stating that electing mayors in two rounds would be beneficial for all parties. At the same time, Tăriceanu argued that a more complex discussion is needs to take place with all parliamentarian parties.

Economic & Fiscal Updates
Friday, Eugen Teodorovici stated that next week OUG 114/2018 will be modified via a new emergency ordinance. Also, the minister has stated that one of the main modifications will be calculating the ROBOR index based on daily inter-bank transactions and those of the last trimester.
According to him, another modification will be investing 2% of privately managed pensions’ social capital in public-private partnerships (PPP). The term by which the social capital must be raised will also be extended in the ordinance for the modification of OUG 114/2018.
Daniel Zamfir, ALDE Senator has also sent a letter to the NBR, via the Senate’s Economic Committee, requesting transparency in regards to how the ROBOR index is being calculated. To the letter, the NBR spokesman replied that since the NBR does not have legislative authority, the aforementioned letter is wrongfully addressed to them.
