Issue Monitoring Internal Affairs Report
➢ On March 15th, 2019, ALDE leader Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu stated that there was a period full of consultations with business representatives from different sectors affected by the GEO 114, and that the normative act was modified. Tăriceanu also mentioned that the consultations will continue, and the changes will be finished by the end of the month.
➢ On March 15th, 2019, President Klaus Iohannis signed the promulgation decree for the draft Budget Law for 2019. Previously, on March 13th, 2019, the Draft Budget Law was reexamined in the joint plenum of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
➢ On March 14th, 2019, PNL has decided upon a final list of candidates for the European Parliament Elections.
➢ On March 12th, 2019, the Government has adopted an Emergency Ordinance setting the medium-term budgetary ceilings for certain economic indicators.
➢ On March 11th, 2019, PM Viorica Dăncilă announced that she will evaluate the activity of all Ministers in the following period and she will compare the activity of the Ministers according to the Governing Program.
International Affairs
➢ On March 11th, PM Viorica Dăncilă had a meeting with the vice-president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans in which they discussed the future relationship between the Romanian Government and the European Commission.
Economic & Fiscal Updates
➢ On March 12th 2019 Romanian Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici, who chaired Tuesday’s ECOFIN ministers gathering in Brussels, told reporters beforehand that the Council likely would delay action. EU finance ministers adopted a revised blacklist for tax havens outside the bloc, overcoming Romania’s bid to postpone a vote to May.
➢ According to statements by Minsiter Teodorovici on March 13th, the debate is now closed on GEO 114/2018, and a deal has been reached with the Romanian Banking Association. The tax on bank assets will no longer be tied to the ROBOR index.
